Our office is located at 1702 W. College Ave, Suite E, Normal, IL 61761. Design Mavens Architecture employees have the opportunity for a flexible work schedule and remote work options, but due to the collaborative nature of our work and the desire to provide mentorship to our staff, employees are expected to work at least part-time in our office (3 days a week minimum)

Architect and Project Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager / Architect to lead architectural projects from initial planning through construction completion. This role is responsible for managing project scope, schedule, budget, and client relationships while providing technical leadership and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality design solutions. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong project management skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to design excellence.

What you will do:

  • Lead and manage architectural projects through all phases of design and construction, including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration.

  • Work with clients to develop project objectives and priorities.

  • Manage client relationships and project deliverables from initial design phase to project completion.

  • Develop project work plans, establish project priorities, monitor progress, and proactively manage project scope and deliverables.

  • Coordinate and lead project meetings with clients, consultants, contractors and internal project teams.

  • Direct and oversee the preparation and coordination of construction documents, specifications, and project manuals.

  • Produce building models and construction drawings using Revit.

  • Produce project manual and specifications.

  • Provide technical leadership by resolving complex design and construction challenges while ensuring projects meet applicable codes, standards, and quality expectations.

  • Manage the coordination of architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty consultant work throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Conduct site visits, review construction progress, respond to RFIs, review submittals, evaluate change orders, and resolve field issues to support successful project execution.

  • Mentor, supervise, and support the professional development of architectural staff while fostering collaboration and accountability within project teams.

  • Communicate project status, schedules, risks, and staffing needs regularly with Firm Principals.

  • Participate in project planning, fee proposals, contract negotiations, business development, and marketing initiatives to support firm growth.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with firm quality standards and client expectations.

  • Promote an efficient, collaborative, and iterative design process that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent organizational, coordination, leadership, team-building, and project management skills.

  • Strong graphic presentation and visualization abilities with the ability to clearly communicate design concepts and ideas.

  • Positive, collaborative, and team-oriented attitude with the ability to build strong working relationships.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Ability to develop and manage project schedules for design phases and deliverables that meet client expectations and project objectives.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and consistently meet deadlines.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of architectural design principles, current industry trends, construction methods, building materials, and manufacturer/vendor products.

  • Strong understanding of building codes, construction methods, architectural building systems and construction documentation.

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong technical drafting and detailing skills.

  • Proficiency in Revit and the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience with Bluebeam is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Degree in Architecture from an accredited university, required.

  • Licensed Architect in the State of Illinois with current registration, or ability to get Licensed in the State of Illinois with reciprocal program.

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of architectural experience with demonstrated project management responsibilities.
